This 1870 former sugar and timber plantation
comprises around 2,500 hectares of secondary forest and
is located 86 km south of the capital, Paramaribo. The
Berg en Dal Project area adjacent to the Suriname River,
is strategically located just 35 km from the international
airport and can be reached by road and by river.
The project
involves using approximately 800 hectares of the plantation
area as a playground, recreation and education (edu-tourism)
area. The resort area will comprise 6 hectares and will
become a unique boutique resort with superior service
for tourists and visitors. It will strengthen the traditional
tourism market and attract tourists from North America
mainly interested by the area’s natural,
cultural and heritage richness as an exotic emerging,
multicultural and historical destination.
The Berg en Dal Resort will give an authentic tourism
experience that will encompass the best hospitality facilities
and amenities in Suriname. It will also offer quality
service, highly trained personnel, the most exciting activities
that tourists will participate in as well as the best
interpretation and tourism guiding services that could
be expected in an eco-cultural destination. River, adventure
and historical trails within the site are presently constructed
to create a number of natural and cultural activities,
tours to the interior to visit villages while respecting
their integrity, visits to natural sites and exploration
of the historical sites of Jodensavanne. For those interested
in excitement and an adrenaline rush, the Resort will
offer the first Canopy tour in Suriname, mountain biking,
horseback riding, river canoeing, early morning and afternoon
guided bird watching tours, and night tours. Complementing
facilities include a small health centre with local treatments
and massages, a restaurant for fine dining and a good
selection of wines, all in a perfect riverine setting,
meditation, contemplation and relaxation areas.
The resort will consist of 45 first class independent
lodges beautifully decorated and culturally integrated,
accommodating over 150 tourists, situated in a beautiful
forested landscape harboring bromeliads and orchids.
At
a distance of 1.5 hours by road or boat, Berg and Dal
is an ideal place not just for international tourists,
but will be a new venue for conferences and meetings and
weekend retreats from the busy capital..
